The Role of the Representative

The role of a congressional Representative is to:

  • Serve as a National leader and a leader in their District
  • Introduce and support legislation, including allocation of resources (much of which are fiscal resources)
  • Have accountability for how those resources are used in the local community

Leadership. A Representative is someone who both leads and facilitates for others to be leaders. As a leader, the Representative must be raising standards (raising the bar) and supporting other leaders in raising the bar. Through leadership and raising the bar, we will build a true community that lives together comfortably, supports diversity, and supports each other.

Legislative Focuses. Legislation should be responsible and effective for the constituency, not catering to special interest. Legislation should also be progressive, encompassing new ways of effecting positive change, utilizing the cutting edge of talent, technology, and knowledge. Too much of today's legislation is based on short-term thinking, tired ideas, and a lowering of the bar, all yielding minimal or negative change while burning significant money.
